My Secret P.E.
My feet pound the earth
each step a rhythm stomped into
the memory of this cracked sidewalk
bleeding the mud
of my shoes
and a hundred others
I run
as easily as breathing
around the corner
my marathon
heart booming
as blood throbs through me
the sun dripping down to
my glowing skin
the street sweeps by
again
as aching legs scream out
to stop
ignore them
Knowing I must finish
now the end is in sight
Muscles stretch
dizzy with
anticipation
and then I stop
I made it
done
finished
won
until tomorrow.
