Shield the darkness with your light.
Use it for good and devour the night.
Bring your red red rose
To pierce the heart of thorns.
Save the soul lost in the fold
Of iron nails and sheets glittering gold.
Eclipse the ebony mooon with your ivory sun.
Sprinkle your silver stars to show good has won.
Expose your power, your love that cannot bend or break
For this lost sheep, worth everything for evil to take.
Priceless, precious beyond measure.
A golden token among God's treasure.
So lift him up and take him in.
Find the good inside of him.
Bring your lamp and lend some light.
Place it on the table to brighten the night.
Do this not for your own gain,
But to ease his burden and his pain.
Establish an unbroken trust, for once you have shared this light
You have prepared this soul to believe in you and choose the right.

The author's comments:
This poem is extremely personal, and it relates to a situation I experienced a couple weeks ago that I am currently still in. I was inspired to write this about a particular friend that I really care about. I am basically talking to myself in this poem, and about what I could do for this friend. I describe this friend as I see him, and I included some of my personal writing style. I added symbols that represent different things for me. I frequently use the colors black and white to contrast dark with light, or good with evil. I utilize biblical allusions because this poem may also be interpreted as what God can do for us, and not only what we can do for others. I express the power each person has within them to bring about a change, and impact someone's life deeply.
