Silence

When I am silent, if even for a moment
I can hear the birds singing in the trees
The cats outside my window crThe cars making whooshing sounds as they go by
The sound of people laughing & talking
The sounds of people on their way to the pool, walking
Only at night do I hear the sound of a gun being fired into the sky
Then I let out an annoyed sigh
For in the distance, I can hear the wailing of sirens
Coming to destroy the beauty I call Silence
