I run and I live
Time falls
Life has nothing to do with minutes
Or miles,
But with blood, with pulses, with shredded breathing.
And thoughts are suddenly clearer but centered on one thing:
The Run

Yet I run and I
Am proud.
For it seems that in the run
Humanity's belligerence is shed
And all are equal.
For she may have won the race
But when she passed me
She said,
“Keep it up.”

Cross country. I thought I'd hate it when I first cinched on my sneakers and ran. Two months later, I wrote this poem.

I run Cross Country too. You're right about the way at the end of the race it doesn't matter so much who won, what matters is that we all made it and that we all love it and we're all happy for eachother. The time after a race is one of my favorite times of my life, you feel a connection to the other runners which you don't have before and you feel like you won, you reached the goal, no matter what place you're in.

Cross country is an incredible sport, and your poem summed it up in the best way. Great job, and keep on running!

I LOVE cross country.  I always be sure to say good job to someone I pass. Thanks for putting into words something I love to do - running!
