Leave Me in the Dark
Just leave me in the dark.
Walk through the alley,
Become so small
I could squish you with my fingers.
Give me one last look,
But don’t look me in the eye.
Stare at my nose,
Or my chin,
Or my eyebrows.
If you were to look me in the eye,
I’d think you actually cared.
How dare I think that, though,
As I see you through my own eyes
Walking away from me.
Leaving me in the corner of the alley.
I could call out to you,
And you’d come back.
You’d know that I care.
How come you won’t call out to me?
How come you’d let me wonder,
Wonder if you cared.
Wonder if I mattered to you
Do you see me out of your side vision?
Do you see me crying on the ground
Of this cold, hard alley?
But I know you don’t.
Because you won’t look me in the eye.
Only my nose,
Or my chin,
Or my eyebrows.
That’s where you glance on your last look,
As you walk away
And become so small
I could squish you with my fingers.
You walk through the alley,
And you just leave me in the dark.
