Too Much of a Man
She hits me with her fists
She stabs me with her words
She smacks me with guilt
But I stay quiet.
I wish I could tell someone.
Tells someone she is hurting me.
But what sort of man would I be,
If I told someone my girlfriend hits me?
So I'll stay quiet and wont say a word.
Because I'm to much of a man for that.

I don't know if this is true, but staying with an abusive partner has nothing to do with gender.
Domestic violence victims are too often portrayed as only women or children, but men are also abused.
I think this poem is a good example of how society's construction of the male gender is harmful to men. "Too much of a man" shouldn't be a phrase. Too much of a man to cry, too much of a man to complain.
It's okay to have emotion. To be scared, to leave an abusive partner, to cry. Even if you're a man.
