Don't Tell Me
Don’t tell me how to cry
Don’t tell me how to scream
Don’t tell me how to laugh
Or interpret my dreams
Don’t tell me all the things I’ve done
Wrong throughout the years
Don’t hinder my sarcasm
And don’t test my fears
Don’t ever test my confidence
My patience or my skill
Don’t ever test my strength
Or the power of my will
Don’t tell me how to live my life
How to think and speak
Don’t tell me how to breathe
Or how to walk down the street
Don’t tell me that I need to stay
With you always and forever
Don’t tell me how to spend my days
Or go about my endeavors
Don’t tell me how to follow
The heart twisted with my soul
Don’t tell me how to listen
Or call me a damned fool
Don’t ever test my innocence
The morals I hold dear
Don’t ever test my knowledge
Or my wits when danger’s near
Don’t tell me what to say
Or what information to disclose
Don’t ever think I’m weak
Or that I can be controlled
Don’t ever kid yourself
Or think you have the upper hand
Don’t ever think I’ll give in
Or be ruled by a possessive man
