Shield
Leaves, exquisite
imperfections,
dark against the
cerulean sky, lighter
as the sun gleams through,
golden, illuminated,
an emerald patchwork,
the brown trunk,
patterned by its history,
a log of its life,
green moss clinging, wrinkles and
veins, pink with age,
neighbors of the
outdoors, frequent
visitors, long-lasting
friends, branded on the tired
bark, leaving their
everlasting imprint.
I WILL ALWAYS
LOVE YOU
Relationships,
friendships have come,
enjoyed shade,
comfort, life, but swept away
with the fallen leaves,
abandoning memories
etched for eternity.
Reaching toward the
heavens, branches,
fingers stretching,
grasping for the
unattainable, the unknown.
The fingers continue
reaching, spreading
themselves, as far as
they can extend, leaves
overlapping, fill the
empty spaces,
an umbrella of radiance,
a shield of protection
from the rest of the world.
