Emerald City
Emerald City
She runs,
She runs with her furry little friend happily trailing behind.
She sees the splendor,
The freedom,
The sleepy little town.
The quiet fills her soul,
Her body,
Her inner essence
Darkness doesn’t exist,
Light breaks through the clouds,
Houses gaze at her with silent watchful eyes,
Pies smile from windows,
Exposed,
No need to be protected.
Fresh cut grass,
Perfectly mowed lawns,
Are never fenced,
Plain, auburn doors,
Never closed,
Her in this land,
She is free.
Twilight comes,
She trots down the cracked, desert-like streets,
To her warm home
Saying goodnight to the Emerald City…
