A War In the Winter
In the lip-splitting cold
Where the winds are armor slicing
I stand in a humongous football field
And I look at all the waste beneath the bleachers
The product of yesterday's game
The product of those too ignorant for trash cans
And a crow appears, then five, then ten
Each hunting for its own meal
Then, the lazy, white seagulls
Having had their slaves find the best food
Swoop down from out of the blue
And a war begins
I wrap my arms tighter around myself
And hope the crows win
