Together We Can
Right now, life is like a crowded hallway:
You want to get out and move on, but there’s nowhere to go
Your feet are able to make tiny steps forward, but that is all
At this rate, it will take you forever to get to the other side of the hallway
Part of you wants to turn around
Part of you wants to abandon your goal.
You look to your right and see a girl your age
Her shoulders are practically touching her ears, raised with tension from the stress of everyday life
Her lips, slathered in a thick layer of gaudy red lipstick, are frozen in an everlasting scowl
Heavy purple bags lay under her nearly blood-shot eyes
As she curses under her breath, she never once glances your way
Her harsh gaze remains locked on the person in front of her.
Peering to your left, you see a boy who looks to be about your age as well
He, too, never looks your way
Instead, he decides to start yelling angrily
Then he shoves the person in front of him, making them shout out in surprise
A fight starts to break out beside you
You close your eyes and wish you were somewhere else.
In this hallway you feel stuck.
Everyone else is focused only on their own lives
It’s as if no one cares about anyone else
And that is most likely the case.
Life is like a crowded hallway.
This is no way to live?
Yet, we are all still stuck in this hallway
Why did we forget how to care about others?
When did we all stop listening to our hearts?
Why do we continue to bully each other?
Why don’t we stop the constant flow of hateful, bitter from streaming out of our mouths?
Well, it’s high time for a change!
Let’s put our past behind us and work towards a brighter
We won’t forget our past
Instead, we’ll learn from our mistakes and failures
Let’s put our heads together and let our voices be heard
Let’s learn to love and be kind again
Let’s learn to understand each other and embrace our differences
Together we can work towards a happier tomorrow
Where there are far more friends than bullies
Because, try as we might, we may never be able to rid the world of bullies entirely
But together we can do our best and try.
We are the next generation.
The decisions we make now will affect our future immensely.
So let’s all extend a hand
Together we can think of a great idea
Together we can form a plan
Together we can act
Together we can succeed
Together we can make a difference
Together we can do…
Anything.
