Shame
I went to their place
And everything clicked, everyone was friendly
Even the drunks could shake your hand and smile
And when you saw them dance to Marvin Sease
You could do nothing but smile inside
For living for the moment and having fun
Was exactly what I wished I could do
But alcohol wasn’t the way to go in my mind
The kids zoomed around
Laughing, walking, playing
And love crossed my face as I watched them
And talked to them, and hi-fived them
And when I got my plate and ate
No one made fun of me
No one insulted anyone
Everyone was an equal
Just a lovely home, full of lovely people.
It is interesting how you can gather together masses of poor
With one specially deep fried custom made turkey
And everyone is family
No one is left behind or devalued
Everyone is on the same page
Not like my family
But that’s a different story.
