When I Look Back
When I look back on those days in your basement,
Sometimes I wonder what I’ve left behind.
Long hours of playing school and house and
Climbing the stairs to get to your kitchen
With the overflowing pantry.
The days your mom drove us to Chuck E. Cheese
And we crawled through the ball pit and the tunnels
Playing our own game and exploring that
Brave new world.
The days we compared favorite Babysitter’s Club book
And the time I tried to convince you that
Computer games were not a waste of time.
It’s years later now, and that basement
Is not our playground anymore.
For the most part, I know that
Things have changed
And we are different people now.
But there are days, when I look back on
Those days.
Sometimes - most of the times,
I know what I’ve left behind.
