Sunset
When I’m old and gray of hair
What will you see of me?
And when the remnant of my life
Edges into its sunset,
What will be left of the choices I made?
And what of the consequences?
In that sunset, will you see
The vibrancy of a happy life?
The fiery spirit you knew to be in me?
Will I have shed the warmth of my life
On those who need it most?
And a helping hand to those in need?
Will I have chosen the easiest way,
Or sacrificed for the well being of others?
What will be left of my life?
Will it be enough to matter?
Let me live with this thought
Ever before me. Ever.
