Change
Do you ever find
That in just one slow blink
Life change so
Thoroughly, fully, confusingly
Change so even you don’t
Know what colour the
Sky
Should be
And change so you can’t remember if
Up is up
Or if up was down
Just yesterday.
Life that used to be a plain sheet of paper
That’s been folded into
A complex piece of
Origami.
Kept behind a piece of glass
In sight
Tempting
And Just out of Reach.
And as you look at the world in front of you
The world that always felt so familiar
The world you thought you knew
You look at the war,
The pain, the destruction
And feel like yelling at the top of your lungs
WHY!?
Why did you have to change from
The picture I know and love?!
But as you look closer at the
Chaotic spirals of red
And sinking black abysses
Something changes
Something flashes in the mix
Something you can’t ignore.
Pink sparkles of hope
And yellow compassion
Spread themselves into the pattern of paper
Purple verticals and green spots
Trickle on
Showing a helping hand,
A thankful thought
The holding of a door
And as you mash your face
Up against the glass
And the colours continue to change
In a swirling mass
And you can’t stop the tears
as the faces pass
You wait.
You pause.
You hesitate.
Catching your breath for a second
As you start to see the hope
Because maybe this origami world
is not so bad
And maybe
Just maybe
The change
Is all you really needed.
