I Wish You Could
Who are you to judge me
If I spit fire and venom?
Who are you to dissect me
If I grow eight heads?
Who are you to spurn me
If I dare disobey?
Who are you to isolate me
If I fight back against you?
Who are you to sympathize?
As if you had any sympathy.
Who are you to whisper?
As if you don’t want me to hear.
Who are you to laugh?
As if you can’t feel my pain.
Who are you to understand?
As if you can comprehend yourself.
I have done none of these things.
No fighting back, disobeying you,
Growing eight heads, nor
Spitting fire and venom.
Yet you still retract,
You still judge, dissect,
Spurn, and isolate.
You cannot comprehend,
Cannot feel my pain,
Cannot whisper too quietly,
Cannot sympathize.
I wish you could.
