Songs and Shackles
The shackles of yesterday
Hung limply on the whipping post
As the enslaved walked;
With graced hearts
To a hostile world
With a song of joy
And with this song
They would defeat the prejudices
The new shackles
And the old foes, fear and death
For what sword
Can stand against a song of unfiltered euphoria
That danced from their free lips
And flew to the heavens
With fiery light , as a symbol to those
Who had fought and passed on
The day had come
Freedom was theirs at last
And so was their song
