Selfishly Hoping
Sympathetic words sound silly
Can they really change your mind?
I blink away subtle tears
Look away
Breathe
While silence surrounds us
I don’t understand.
A life is worth trying for
Giving up seems absurd
I’m selfish for wanting you to keep living.
If these words you whisper hold truth
If what you say is real, I’m not sure
Egotistically, I hope it’s not
But I can tell that despite the forced smile,
The friendly laughs,
Beneath lies this
And there I sit, wishing that, to save myself from
Shameful tears and sobs,
You won’t stop suffering.
