I've Never Been Okay
A gallery of fresh open wounds
Scarlet ribbons encasing knife-like tongues
Cutting into my heart, my belly, my brain, my soul
Silent desperation at its finest
Tears do not splash upon the tile floor
I do not scream
I only whisper hateful mantras into the glass reflection
A worthless stupid fat ugly girl stares back at me
She does not dare cry, does not dare fight back
She knows all too well no one would care
She wants to be fixed; I need to be fixed
Maybe somebody could locate the pieces, long forgotten
So they can fit me with new parts and rearrange my old ones
Like a jigsaw puzzle, maybe then I’d be complete
The thought makes me shudder
I’m terrified because I don’t know what it’s like to be
unbroken.

Boy, when you're dead, they really fix you up. I hope to hell when I do die somebody has sense enough to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetery. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody. ~J.D. Salinger,The Catcher in the Rye,
