when i was proud
the sugar i spilled on the stove mixed with the butter
a lipstick stain marred my glass rim, it wasn't mine
the cuff of your best white shirt had the same lipstick
a silent plea went up, to ask for it to not be true
the call went unanswered so i lost my faith in fairness
tell me now if she was worth it
losing the carefully arranged photo memories
i put them on the mantle when i was proud
i'll take them down ashamed of it all
tell me now if she was worth it
the white collars you put on every morning are torn
a dull seam ripper lies in my tired hands
the look of hurt you give me is to nothing to me
a broken life stretches out before me
the answer lies clear in your eyes--yes, yes she was
