WORDS
Sometimes words so teasingly said
Can hurt, can prick, can sting
But you continue to smile
Take it as it comes
Spar back
Even though it kills you a little inside
So the anger, the pain, the secret agony
Builds, bubbles, and grows
Until it’s spilling over
And you erupt
One word too many
And you yell
You rant
You let out all the hurt that has been collecting inside
And so they stop
They look warily
Or they look away
But they don’t tease
And although you feel relieved
You miss the camaraderie
The easy words
Even the ones that hurt
