She touched at her face
In the water-spot mirror
And felt like a well-told lie
She rubbed away makeup
Along her cheekbones
And saw a secret inside
She pinched blood vessels
Drawing them to her skin
Shining rose-red under her eyes
She peeled away a layer
From her chin to her brow
Crinkling what she despised
She painted a new face
But the mask held blank
Save her frozen, plastic smile
