Past/Present/You
he takes my hand
you took my hand
and pulls me towards him
and pulled me towards you
his palms are sweaty from dancing
your palms were sweaty from the summer’s
heat
and I tense as he puts an arm around me
and I relaxed as you put an arm around me
it’s hot on the dance floor
it was hot in the park
strobe lights streaming around us
sunlight streaming around us
a disco ball casts sun-on-water rainbows
the sun on the water cast disco ball rainbows
he shouts something to me
you murmured something to me
but I can’t hear over the music’s pounding baseline
but I couldn’t hear over my heart’s pounding beats
and as he bends down to kiss me
and as I leaned up to kiss you
all I can think is your name
all I could think was your name
