Who's to Say?
Who's to say that God exists?
Who's to say He doesn't?
Who's to say that a silver cross
means anything more than hope?
Who's to say the ocean's depth?
Or length, or width, I ask?
Who's to say that perfect blue
just crops up in fairytales?
Who's to say the world will end?
Who's to say it won't?
Who's to say that every day
is precious, or if it's not?
Who's to say who's best at what?
Based on points or time, or not?
Who's to say who'll win that race,
and who will finish last?
Who's to say that less is more,
or that more is less, perhaps?
Who's to say what others think,
when they can't speak for them?
Who's to say you'll always smile,
or never frown again?
Who's to say life won't tear you down,
but then build you up again?
Who's to say what's right and wrong?
Like what is just and fair and such?
Who's to say that anyone knows,
like we're not just trampling on?
But now, I ask, who's to say:
"Who is she to ask such things?!
To doubt our thoughts, our goals,
to question our every motivation?"
Others, i guess, could thusly ask:
"Who is not to hope as she?!
To think of good, of fantastic things,
to dare to dream, to question?"
These varied thoughts, I won't assume,
may shape a world yet to come.
Yet until then, I wonder still:
"Who am I to dream and dare?
Who am I to hope and question?
Who am I to ask who is?"
