Reflections
The diamond plated ground
reminded her of him.
The fresh white blanket of cold held his presence.
She hung the luminous silver tinsel
across the sharp branches.
Round red bulbs strung from the tree
mirrored her glassy eyes.
The smell of pine caressed her,
while jagged memories harassed her.
That night she lie in bed,
hugged by her amethyst satin sheets;
thinking he should be on the other side.
She loosened and then secured the ring on her hand,
as it brightly reflected
a reason for a broken heart
in the dim light from her bed stand.
She got out of bed and stepped outside
for just one last time.
Her eyes fixated north.
The nighttime skies held the stars
she had only seen in his eyes.
Inside again, she opened the drawer,
lovely burnished furniture.
And she smoothed the cold shimmering
bullet between her fingers.
