Sidewalk Chalk~
You said love was like
The chalk drawings we constantly drove over on our bikes
Beautiful, unique
Breathtaking and deep
But ultimately: temporary
And that was hard to hear from you
Because everything I’d ever heard you speak was true
But regardless whether you were right or wrong
I wasn’t going to move along
So I decided to love you like the sidewalk chalk
Who puts all her effort on the cold, hard pavement where the people walk
Knowing the street won’t do anything to hold on to the art
But giving her all, pouring out her heart
I love you like sidewalk chalk
Willing to grind against dirt and rock
Willing to waste out just for a chance
A whim, a want, a taste of romance
Maybe not all chalk drawings wash away
If we protect it and shield it, maybe it’ll remain
Just say you’ll give it a chance, let’s just try
Don’t make me sidewalk chalk broken and left behind
Look to the ground and the art; its design
We’re a masterpiece of the permanent kind.
