The Crow
The silent observer,
looming above,
waiting, watching,
black glassy eyes dart to catch each movement,
You trip on the stairs,
he edges forward,
You catch yourself on the railing,
he settles,
waiting once again, black glassy eyes missing nothing.
The highway is dark,
the only light comes from your headlights,
trying to cut through the downpour,
the deer appears like magic.
You slam on the brakes, swerve,
Your heart races.
he leans forward.
The metal loses against the tree, curling around you,
glass glittering down like acid rain,
The warm sensation lasts only a moment,
he smiles,
The cold sets in, the sharp pain fades.
caws rip through the night,
With each one you relax a little more, you heart slows,
Your eyes close.
he takes flight, blending into the dark night.
