Her Only Friend, Her Only Companion
A pianist
Recently pushed to the edge
Wanting, wishing, hoping
Tomorrow is her last day
She walks to her piano
Her only friend
Her only companion
And lifts the cover
Then sits down at the seat
Lightly placing her long, graceful fingers
Onto the black and white keys
Gently feeling them under her hands
Smooth, ivory, cold
Suddenly she strikes just one note
And the sounds pour out
One by one
Mi, So, Si, La, Do
All of her emotions
Anger, Hate, Envy
Sadness, Loneliness, Hopelessness
Dispersed into just this one
Instrument through the music
All the sounds released
Equivalent to the feelings
And after playing
She’s satisfied for now
Until something or someone
Releases her inner sorrows
And again she’ll turn to the piano
Her only friend
Her only companion
