Misunderstanding

Misunderstanding
all that was lost
and scratching together
sentimental appointments
that now mean merely nothing
as the past looks on
taunting and teasing
with the future, the bully,
and they don’t care
if you’ve got nothing left
they’ll take and they’ll take
till there’s nothing left to take
even if there’s nothing to give,
you’ll give it to them.
