It’s true
How little things
Really matter

Before taking medicine,
I would have to read
a test question, which I knew was easy,
about seven times over to understand it

Before taking medicine,
Everything the teacher would say
Would not be heard by me
Except for, “Is that clear?”

Teachers thought I would take my time
I wouldn’t; I was rushing
To catch up with my peers,
Whom I thought were robots

To focus was to row a boat
To the moon
And to listen to a lecture
Was to recreate a dinosaur

Now with medicine,
I can read a test question once
And understand it in a snap
and be almost as fast as my peers

Now with medicine,
I can actually listen
To nearly every word
The teacher says

It’s amazing
It’s fantastic
I can do anything!
Robots who?

I have major potential
Though I struggle, I’m a role model student
No, I can never recreate a dinosaur
Or fly to the moon

But I am grateful
For the small things
Which are big things
In disguise
