Stepping Stones
Stepping stones
Old and new
You've walked on them all your life
One day you ran across them
When you couldn't run on them
You simply just walked
Today you stumble across them
It's hard for you to even walk
But you still get across
You say you're done
Done with these old stepping stones
But don't you understand
When you're done on them
These stepping stones
You'll be leaving me behind
Although your hair has grayed
And your limbs are no longer limber
Please stick around for me
As I have not gotten far
On my stepping stones
Please don't leave
I don't expect you to wait
Until I've finished
Just wait a little longer
Wait, please, your stepping stones
They go a little farther
I'll help you across
