As I Lay Awake at Night
I lay awake at night
When I’m supposed to be asleep and
As I lay awake
I think about what could have been
What is, and what will be
As I lay awake at night
All I see is you and
Those bright blue eyes, which
light up my day
When I have lost hope, when I feel
Like no day could get
Any darker
As I lay awake at night
I wonder about how you always seem to
Have your back to me
When I want you to look me in my eyes
Give me a kiss, you know
Express how you really feel
About me, and show the world
That you can like someone different
Someone like me
As I lay awake at night
My heart aches at the fact
That you and I will forever be
Just as we are now-
Friends and nothing more
The pain, oh the pain
As I lay asleep at night
I dream about you
And for once,
Everything is exactly the way
I want it to be
Then it all disappears and my eyes open
Oh, how I hate dreams
Because they give me a false sense of reality
They mess with my mind,
They remind me of what could have been
What is, and what will be
As if they thought I had forgotten
Over night
I wish, oh I wish
It were that easy
to forget that you and I
will never be
just you and me
