Buttered Popcorn
I love buttered popcorn
So many kernels, all so different
Why not paint the world?
A sea of memories engulfs me…
Buttered popcorn, so light and empty
Yet full of flavors and memories for me
I am whisked away in memory
Keeping the past near to my heart
I can not laugh, can not cry
As I remember, emotionlessly,
Everything I have done,
And what I have yet to do
The starry nights go by
I watch them pass in sorrow
My life stands still while whirling around me
I have no foundation on which to build
What do I have to offer the world?
So very, very much!
But the doubts of others indoctrinate me
Into thinking there is nothing left.
Who will find me?
Who will care enough about me
To really try to understand my life?
Who is interested in what I have learned?
Until I find them,
Which means until the day I die,
I’ll be eating buttered popcorn mindlessly
All alone in the universe
