The Window
When I look out my second story window
I see a mama bird dining with her new born
The main course being thick worms.
They sit in a pine tree
Located at the bedside of a free flowing river.
As the water spills over tiny pebbles it catches the light
And glistens like the starts on a clear summers night.
I smell nothing but the crisp air wafting through the holes in the screen.
I feel the warm sun on my face soaking into my pores
And I can almost taste the juicy strawberries
Scattered among young purple tulips.
The grass is trimmed in perfect rows
Without a single Pepsi can to weigh it down.
All I wish to do is be a part of this world.
But then I sprint down the carpeted stairs
And open the stained door.
Before it’s even halfway open thick smoke which is sitting in the air fills my mouth.
I’m not even able to hear the humming of my TV
Over the trucks roaring down the street
I spot the river
But it’s fringed water looks green, and slimy.
Its as if I was shoved out of a window into the real world
I stand still my mouth quaking at the mess we have created.
I pick up a Pepsi off my untamed lawn
And run to my window where I grab a chair to wait for the perfect world to appear
