When a child is afraid
Of a simple ball game
Wouldn’t you think we would
Stop and think?

When a simple being
Is so hungry that the last particle
Of biscuit disappears
Wouldn’t you think we would
Stop and think?

When a concentration camp
Can be seen outside a little boy’s window
Wouldn’t you think we would
Stop and think?

When a soldier’s duty
Becomes more important
Than his family
Wouldn’t you think we would
Stop and think?

When love is overrun
By pride and ego
Wouldn’t you think we would
Stop and think?

When one voice
Seems louder
And more important
Than all others
Than all tongues and dialects
Don’t you think we should
Stop
And think?

The author's comments:
I wrote this when watching the movie 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas;' if you've ever seen it, then hopefully you'll really understand. If you haven't, I recommend it even though it is sad and I also hope that you can comprehend this poem.
