The Hawk
Sunlight beats down on the grass plain,
and a menacing shadow passes overhead.
The squirrel charges across the long grasses,
very aware that the hawk has seen him.
His eyes have no trouble picking out the squirrel’s bushy tail,
like the crosshairs to a sniper’s scope.
His eyes gleam with opportunity,
And he zooms down till he is
almost on top of the squirrel,
and grabs it.
Feathers and fur clash,
as the squirrel tries to break the hawk’s grip,
but the Hawk prevails.
The hawk flies off
and returns to his nest
with a limp squirrel.
