Remember
Remember that little girl?
The one who looked to you for everything
Even when the shadows began to come out at her?
The little girl who cried for nothing, because there was
Nothing that could make her cry.
Well, she’s grown now.
She’s found plenty to cry for.
It’s not a weakness in her eyes, no.
To her it’s the strength of years.
Now she sees the world with open eyes.
She sees the truth and the lies.
The promises made but never kept.
Sees the world for what it is and smiles despite it.
Have you not thought that maybe by now she would realize that
You alone had forgotten her?
Of course not: it never occurred to you that there was a possibility
She’d remember you when she got older.
Unfortunately, I have remembered; for thirteen years I've remembered.
Remembered a promise that would've saved me so much pain and heartbreak.
For it I am stronger and wiser and understanding.
Remember that five year old girl you promised the world?
I’m 18 now and I haven’t forgotten you.
