Insecure
In the cover of night,
the princess runs,
patters and pitters
across the dying grass
to the promising horizon that lie ahead.
The pursuit follows close behind--
constant,
steady,
reflecting her every movement,
every choice.
She runs,
pushing herself
farther and farther
away from what she
knows.
Yet the pursuit doesn’t stop
and she tires
losing sight ahead.
The mirror behind catches up,
but in front,
the sun begins to rise and burst,
its brilliant streaks like arrows
penetrating
the very depths of her soul.
