we are all masters of (self) destruction
and slowly, we are destroying the failure
that we thought we were
we are breaking down these walls
of textbooks and looseleaf
of ephemeral promises and failed romance
of wasted tears and fading ambition
of dreams, broken and discarded
see, no one told us that all of our plans
would one day slip through the cracks
and so would we, landing in a disheveled heap
scattered across the pavement,
vision streaked by stars and tears
yet no one told us
and so we learned
that perhaps the only thing holding us back
were our dreams
and slowly, we are destroying the dreams
that we thought defined us
