Violent Meadow
The backs of your eyelids
Heat up in suspense
Of what lies ahead
In the meadow that's said
To be brutal, relentless,
Make you sick to your stomach
and don't expect less
Than to be made a puppet
And stick your hand in your chest
Feel the pulse in your palm
Pull it out as a test
Face perfectly calm.
Your teeth will bite down
Hearing silence. No sound.
Mouth filling with blood
As your shoes start to flood
Your fists start to clench
You can't fight the stench
Of those who fought before you
Face turning blue.
You drop to your knees
Asking why.
In return you hear screams
So you don't even try
You give in to the violence
This time you won't cry
You drop your fence
Call it serenity instead.
You embrace the flames
and you know it; you're dead.
They don't play much games
In the meadow that's said
To make and take lives
as each of us strives
to count breaths in the end.
