"Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game."

Friday Nights are a gift
What more can a family ask for
A time to bond, laugh, and play games
The answer is simple, we need nothing more

Mom lights two candles
With the candle sticks I made in nursery
Dad goes to the synagogue
After picking up desserts from the bakery

We all sit at the table
Everyone in their place
From cousins to aunts and uncles
The same hungry look on everyone’s face

We eat we talk we joke we laugh
Leaning back on our chairs in satisfaction
I’m now ready to play my brother Backgammon
Always trying to discontinue his streak of domination

When the clock strikes twelve
Its time to turn in
The highlight of my week comes to an end
Looking forward for the next to begin

Friday Night, or as I call Shabbat, is simply a spiritual blessing. As the week ends, I suddenly get to disconnect myself from all materialistic objects. As a Jew, or even as a teenager, it is so important that I take a "day off" from my cell phone, television, and school to enjoy the sweet company of my own family. It's a night to eat a delicious meal, play games with your siblings, and have meaningful conversations with the people you love. I honestly cannot imagine my life without this time of complete bliss. In my morning prayers I thank and praise G-d for all that he does for me, but when it comes to Shabbat I am suddenly at loss for words.
