Answering the Rain
Today, I’m ready to answer the rain.
Its drumbeat is a call-a cry- for us to awaken.
So, tiny droplet rolling down the window pane, today I will respond.
And I’ll finally wake up.
I’ll take a step outside and
I’ll see the beauty through the clouds and
I’ll be my own light and
I’ll resist the urge to drown.
I’ll lie in the grassy fields of a place I love
To call my home
I’ll visit Death himself and tell him that
He’s lost this one
I’ll breathe in the autumn air and the scent
Of laundry that resonates through the neighborhood
The warm feelings of true beauty, true love, and true happiness
Protect me like an iron gate
And just like that,
The rain has awoken me.
And just like that,
I’m aware of the beauty
In myself and in the glow of city lights,
In the changing leaves and the rows of houses that have been built around me.
This town is my home
And along with the rain,
It has awoken me.
