Tick Tock
You started out in diapers
A cradle for a bed
With Elmo toys, and simple dreams
Of sugar plums in your head
Then one day you got up
And learned the glories of "walk"
And, soon enough, you opened your mouth
Talked, and talked, and talked
Before your parents knew it
You up and fled the nest
Choruses of, "She's a grown up now,"
"She can do it!"
You did what you thought was best
Soon you met a partner
A worthy equal
And together you had two
Beautiful little peoples
Then, they grew up
Off to find their own destinies
And what were you left with now?
Arthritis, and two bad knees
With your spouse
You've been through thick and thin
And one day you wake up,
Forced to start a new life without him
Your children visit,
But it's less and less
Your hair turns white
You make a mess
What's next? You ask,
As you hobble along
Sit down on a bench
And hum a little song
To yourself
And before you know it
You begin to cry
And call up your children
To say goodbye
Because
We all lose time,
Instead of gain it.
We all lose loved ones,
It's quite a pain it's
Life
You can't escape it
