They told me I couldn't
They told me I couldn't
Climb a mountain
My legs: too weak
My lungs: too small
The peak: too tall
They told me I couldn't
So I did
They told my mom
I couldn't survive
My heartbeat, too frail
My head, too big
My body, not lithe
They told her I couldn't,
So I did
They told me I
Could never be smart
That I never followed my head
Always my heart.
They told me I could never
Become intelligent
And I did
The doctor said
I shouldn't hope
She's too far gone
Her back too broke
She has scarred limbs
Her wits too dim
Her head is weary
I loved her so,
I listened not
My spirits high
Then my hopes got shot
Down
It looked bad, and then...
She got better again!
He said she wouldn't
But she did
NEVER tell me I couldn't
I shouldn't
I wouldn't
Because I can, I shall, I will
