where I'm From
I Am From Dominican Republic
I Am From the exaggerated decoration for every christmas
in every house , every year
I Am From the little kids playing bitilla as desperately as the
world would end the next day
I Am From the bright colors of the little houses
I believe would make anyone blind
I Am From the involving scent of my mom’s food
I Am From the strong of the every morning coffee
As rich as addictive
I Am From the creamy and sweet Habichuelas Con Dulce
at spring break , which I waited for Impatiently
I Am From the spicy and full-of-meat Sancochos
that my granny made full of joy
From the delicious and refreshing juices that my neighbor sold
The only good thing that came out of that family
Besides the funny arguments that made me burst in laugh
I Am From my BFF’s favorite phrase “El que ta’ bueno abusa”
which always bring memories of our adventures
I Am From all the joy I had in that tiny barrio
From all the tears I cried the day I left
From how happy I was there .
