SLAM!
The pictures that I hold of them shutter
This happens almost every night
He comes home; whiskey on his breath
And, her, disappointment in her eyes
Words of hate start to fly through the air
Like a hungry bird stalking its prey;
Smacking me with powerful blows
Then it grows silent
Her eyes fishing through his for an explanation
Not able to take the silence
He leaves in rage
Tears flowing down her face
She leans her distressed head on my tear stained corner
Her heart obviously broken
I offer my support without question
As she spills all her thoughts and emotions
I wish I could hold her
Tell her that everything is going to be alright
But I can’t
For my purpose is not to comfort
But to offer protection
Protection from the outside world
And all her fears
Protection over her deepest darkest secrets
Wants
And Desires
I bare all this weight
But yet I stand strong
For I was built with a purpose
And it will be fulfilled

The narrator of this poem is a wall... walls see and hear everything. This wall is explaining a too familiar image brought upon it.
