contained
contained,
at an initial glance, you might think of tupperware
or prisons
but if you really think of it
what you really see are
locked compartments and
file cabinets
in the nooks and crannies of
your mind
they beckoned to be opened
but you know you cannot
because the key to
those very compartments
and cabinets
does not pay the bills
does not establish you as hierarchy
does not get you recognized
by your parents
but instead those keys
can open
a new wave of happiness
a lingering sense of satisfaction
a glimmer of hope
something that can erase
the blackening of
your inner workings
and the dangerous
"what if’s" you might
ask yourself when turning 81
it can challenge society’s ideal
that science and math aren’t
the only two options
we must think about the keys
we decide to us each day
a lot more
before we forget
which keys are really ours
and
which are not
