The Color of Love
How could anyone describe the complex,
Implausible,
Mystifying,
Baffling concept of love?
Does it have a smell?
Is it a sound?
Is it a color?
Maybe it is a smell;
The smell of freshly cut roses on Valentines evening.
Or maybe the smell of hot coco while she’s sick in bed on her birthday?
Maybe the whiff of cologne she receives when he leans in for a kiss goodnight.
Maybe love is a sound;
The sound of his lips smacking against hers before the lights dim in a movie theater.
Or maybe the whisper trace of ‘I love you’ around her ear before they fall asleep?
Perhaps the sound of the doorbell with him waiting with a box of chocolates, just because.
Love, maybe, is a color,
The color red of their tired eyes after staying up all night talking.
Or maybe the color orange of the sunset they watch set together?
Maybe the color of the pink flush she gets when he winks from across the room.
Love, is abstract
No smell, sound or color
No definition, explanation or reason
Love is feeling deep in the heat of your heart
Love is the swarm of butterflies in your stomach you try to kill
Love is the simplest action
The smallest words
The warmest content, unintentional
Out of your control.
Pure,
simple,
true.
Colorless.
