Monsters

When we were little kids,
We checked under our beds and in our closets,
What were we looking for?
Monsters.
We never did find anything, and that's the thing.
The monsters we were looking for aren't around us,
They are us.
The monsters live in our heads.
They feed and destroy until we,
Ourselves, become the monster.
We can try to fight it, to beat it,
But that doesn't matter in the end.
There is always a part of ourselves,
That knows it will happen.
We refuse to accept it,
We fight the battle against them.
Jokes on us though, then we are weak and they are strong.
Finally, we have no choice, but to stop fighting.
To become the monster we tried to destroy.

I really liked the idea behind this poem! It is similar to a book I recently read. I know most people comment this, but I also wrote a few poems, and if you wouldn't mind reading them and rating or commenting, that would mean a lot! Thanks!

We few, we happy few

Although the idea is kind of overused, your poem flows nicely and sounds great
