The Canvas and The Painter
Every lie that ever crossed those lips I will weave into a string of cautions and tuck them into the corner of my brain
I will take every hurtful thing you ever said to me and paint my heart with shades of black and blue
I drank you down thinking you were the cure when you were a hidden poison, disguised behind careless I love yous and sweet nothings spoken softly when you wanted something
Every ache in my chest and tight throat will be seen in my brain as your calling card
A chain of whispers of the worst things you’ve ever said to me will dance in my mind when I see your name
I will make the sick game you played with me into a warning, a precaution sign stamped across my heart with big bright letters flashing your name
You will not be remembered as a love that was lost, but instead as a cautionary tale
The message will stay clear with me forever that some love only to collect hearts, with no real intention to ever give away their own.
